How scores work

A score is math on verified driver answers. Nothing else goes in. Here is the whole method.

Five questions, 1 to 5

Every reviewer answers the same five questions about the factor. Each answer maps to 1 to 5 points. The table below is the map. “Not sure” and “Never had a problem” are skipped, never counted as a low score.

ScoreThe questionAnswer → points (proposed)
Pay speedAfter you sent an invoice, how long to get your money?Same day 5 · Next business day 4 · 2 to 3 days 3 · It varied a lot 2 · 4 days or more 1 · Not sure: skipped
ReservesDid they hold a reserve, and how was getting at it?No reserve 5 · Got it when I asked 4 · Slow or hard to get 2 · Still waiting to get it back 1 · Not sure: skipped
LeavingWhat did it take to leave?Clean: release letter within 5 business days 5 · Slow: 1 to 4 weeks 3 · A fight: over a month, or outside help 1 · Haven’t tried to leave: skipped
FeesRate as quoted? Any surprise fee?Rate as quoted, no surprise fee 5 · A small fee nobody told me about 3 · More than one, or a big one 1 · Not sure: skipped
Phone pickupWhen you called, did a real person pick up?Always 5 · Usually 4 · Sometimes 3 · Rarely or never 1 · Never had a problem: skipped

Point values above are a proposal for review. They are published exactly as used once approved.

From answers to a factor score

  1. A review’s score for a question is its points. A review’s overall score is the average of the questions it answered.
  2. A factor’s score for each question is the average of its verified reviews on that question, with newer reviews counting a bit more (proposed: weight halves every 12 months).
  3. The ring on a profile is the average of the five question scores.
  4. Each question shows its own number of answers, because fewer drivers answer Leaving.

Try it yourself

Pick answers for a few made-up reviews and watch the score move. This runs in your browser with the same rules as the real scoring code. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Try this: load the 6 examples, then remove two. The score disappears, because under 5 reviews there is no score. Then change a “Today” review to “24 months ago” and see how little an old review counts.

5 reviews before a score

Under 5 verified reviews, a profile shows the reviews and says “Not scored yet.” It is not ranked and not in any leaderboard.

Bands

Strong 4.0 and up · Mixed 3.0 to 3.9 · Weak below 3.0. The number and how much of the ring is filled carry the meaning. Color only adds to it.

What never goes in

  • Whether a factor is a partner, or anything we are paid. The scoring code has no field for it, and every score run is logged with its inputs so it can be audited.
  • Posts from forums or social media.
  • A factor’s replies.
  • Ads, sponsorships or paid tools.

Worked example (made up)

A factor has 12 verified reviews. Pay speed answers average 4.4, Reserves 3.7, Leaving 3.0 (7 answers), Fees 4.0, Phone pickup 4.4. The ring shows the average of those five: 3.9, Mixed.

How we’re paidSome factors pay us a referral fee when a driver signs with them. You pay nothing extra, and it never changes a score or ranking. How we make money →
